Significance of Laylatul Qadr – Why is it Important?”
When the Prophet ﷺ saw that the previous nations had much longer lifespans—some living for thousands of years—he wondered how his Ummah could compete with them in performing good deeds. In response, Allah granted the gift of Laylatul Qadr, a night in which worship is not just better than a thousand days but superior to a thousand months.
The significance of Laylatul Qadr is so great that an entire chapter of the Quran was revealed about it, known as Surah Al-Qadr.
Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran:
Surah Al-Qadr (القدر)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Indeed, We sent the Qur’an down during the Night of Decree.
And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree?
The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.
The angels and the Spirit [Jibreel] descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter.
Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.
This Surah emphasizes the greatness and significance of Laylatul Qadr, a night filled with divine blessings, mercy, and peace, making it more valuable than a thousand months of worship.

In response, Allah ﷻ granted the Night of Power, which is not just superior to a thousand days but to a thousand months. This means that performing a single act of worship on this night is equivalent to worshiping for 83 years. Such an incredible opportunity has been given to Muslims that if they worship on this one night, it is as if they have worshiped for 83 years. If a person worships on this night every year, just imagine how many years’ worth of worship they will accumulate in their lifetime! On Laylatul Qadr, angels descend to the earth in such great numbers that the earth becomes congested. On this night, Jibreel Ameen greets people with salaam.
According to Ahadith, the sign of Jibreel Ameen’s salaam is that the heart of the person he greets becomes soft.
